Amantadine Working Well

I believe the amantadine is working very well. McKenzie is much more even in moods, calmer, and more cheerful. She made lunch for her whole family the other day on her own. She helped me yesterday with cleaning the house without having to be asked and even helped her sister with her chores. She was extra sweet to Tori yesterday when Tori did not feel good. And she handled her frustrations with a calm demeanor too. I am almost scared to write this as to jinx it. But I know that there is no such thing as jinxing things. God is in control. We are thoroughly enjoying Kenzie which makes me so happy. I hope the medicine does not wear off. We head out of town this afternoon for a week up north with just the five of us. I am praying we have a wonderful relaxing vacation. I think we just might.

  1. Amy - I'm not familiar with Amantadine. Can you fill me in - what does this do for Kenz? Our girls are so much alike, I'd love to bring in new info for Ava's doc in hopes that adding something new to her cocktail, like Amatadine, could help her too!! Thanks!

  2. Erin-Amantadine is an old parkinson's drug that I found out about it from Megan from her blog: a bipolar daughter and the family who loves her. Her daughter was prescribed this at Meridell-a medical residential treatment center-the place where we almost sent Kenzie this winter. I have wanted to try it for awhile but it is new to our psychiatrist too. It seems to make her more calm and even. Megan has quite a lot of info on it on her blog. I don't really understand it all but it does something to the dopamine in the brain. I do know that once a month she has to take a 48 hour break from it. I can't remember the reason why but I plan on figuring that out also so I can ask the doctor next time we go. Go to Megan's blog and look up everything that has to do with amantadine-that will give you a wealth of info. Hope that helps. Amy

  3. Wow, Thanks Amy, I'll check out what Megan says about it too. They are still playing with Spawn's (she's 8) meds since the Intuniv (sp) increased her aggression and we took her off of it about 3 weeks ago. We don't go back until the beginning of the month though. ~Jen (Jay_Lee)
